Patrick Leigh Fermor

I had never heard of Patrick "Paddy" Leigh Fermor until today when I read his obituary in the New York Times. A travel writer who walked across Europe as a teenager, it appears that Mr. Fermor lived quite the life.

"A dangerous mix of sophistication and recklessness" and "perhaps the most brilliant conversationalist of his time," I think it's safe to say he would have been a a terrific dining partner. I also love the parasol.

Day 1 with David Barton

Courtesy of PopSugarCity, I received a 7-day trial membership to David Barton's Gym (Astor Place). Today was my first day. Day 1 accomplishments include:

  • 1.5M on treadmill (20 minutes)
  • 5M on stationary bike (20 minutes)
  • Shower, hair drying, general moseying around the locker room (20 minutes)

All in all, it was a good hour spent. Although I am somewhat embarrassed by my 12+ minute mile, I'm hoping I'll improve. Next time, must remember ear-phones.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

Coconut Cream Pie

I had a really terrific coconut cream pie yesterday. It looked similar to the below.

This weekend, I might be inspired to make my own.

Pho

Back in San Francisco after a great trip South. After four days of shrimp, grits, green beans, chicken & dumplings, and coca-cola cake, I'm ready for some of this:
